Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
Morning, everyone!
Sorry I dropped off the face of the earth since last Wednesday, but I decided to take some time away from the computer during the four day Thanksgiving holiday, so that my husband could see something other than the back of my head. :-)
So this is what I've been up to...
Thanksgiving
It was just my husband and I for Thanksgiving, as I've been...estranged from my family for about four years now. The first year it was just the two of us we made the turkey and all the fixings ourselves and it was just too much hassle for two people. So the last two years we've eaten out at different Thanksgiving buffets and they both sucked. :-( So this year we let our local Meijer do the cooking for us. *g* For $29.99 we got a fully cooked 12 lb turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, cranberry salad and rolls. All we had to do was reheat the turkey for 2 hours and microwave everything else. We added our own salad and some carrots and voila! A great meal with no fuss!
Black Friday
I've never in my life shopped the day after Thanksgiving. Until this year.
I travel quite a bit, and my poor luggage that I've had for years and years is on it's last legs. At our local Carson Piere Scott store they had a 5 piece set, originally $200, for $47.97. It was just too good of a deal to pass up. So my wonderful husband got up at 3 am to be at the store in line when they opened at 4 am. And he got my luggage! I love him. :-)
He came home and woke me up so that I could go and get in line at Target. I've been wanting a new cell phone for awhile now, and they had the one I'd been looking at, originally $90 on sale for $39. And they also had iPod Nanos on sale as well, with a free Target gift card. Yes, I'm the last one left on earth who didn't have an iPod. :-)
The line at Target was insane, running down the entire length of the store and wrapping around it. We were about 3/4 of the way down it. It was freezing cold, but luckily it wasn't windy or snowing. We actually had a good time standing there, as we had some great conversations with the three women in front of us. :-)
It was chaos as soon as we got in the store, but I did get my phone (they only had three of them!) and my pink iPod and my car adapter for it. We were in and out of there in less than half an hour, as they had about 20 checkout lanes open.
We ended up going to Staples and the mall afterwards where we picked up a few other things.
I was totally exhausted by the time we got home, so we both ended up taking about a three hour nap. :-) After we got up, the weather had warmed up a bit, so we went outside and started putting up our Christmas lights. Our neighbor across the street came over and said she was so excited to see us putting up our display as she loved it last year. :-)
We finished putting up the lights on Saturday afternoon and then just vegged out for the rest of the day.
The only bad thing - my new phone stopped working this morning! ARGH!! Virgin Mobile is sending me out a new one FedEx today so I'll have it tomorrow. What a hassle, though, having to reprogram everything that I just did on Sunday. Grrrr...
SNOW!
Well, it wouldn't be December in Chicago if it didn't snow immediately. [sigh] We've got several inches on the ground right now. But it gave me a chance to use my new Jeep's 4-wheel drive! Woot!
Whew. So that's what I've been up to the last four days. Apologies to those I owe comments to going back to last week. I'm hoping to get caught up today.
I hope all of you had a great holiday, too!

I'd love to see your Christmas lights! Think about maybe posting a pic?
It's snowing here too! I just hope it stays until Christmas. Last year we had snow, snow, snow then it rained Christmas week and there was no snow! That's the mid-west for ya!
I'm glad to see you back!

Yeah, you should totally try the pre-cooked dinner thing, it worked out great. As for the dishes, you tell Casey that's what husbands are for. :-) He been doing okay since the surgery?

Good idea! I'll see if I can get out there tonight and snap one.
Still snowing by you? It finally stopped here last night. And it did the same thing here last year, too! All this snow and then on Christmas it was all melted away. Remind me why we live in the Midwest? :-)

Unfortunately, no. He still has some problems swallowing and some pain. The doctor said getting your tonsils out as an adult is about 10 times worse than getting them out as a child. That plus all the other things they did make this a fairly long-term recovery. He's back to work this week though!

Awesome! Thank you! My dad used to put us in the car just to drive around and look at the Christmas lights, I think it made me kind of an addict! I LOVE Christmas lights!

'Cause they have the best husband material here!

Thank you!!!!! Both true AND Christmassy! I spent Saturday night making Christmas-type icons.

Aww, poor guy! Is he being a good patient or do you want to strangle him? :-)

My dad, too! Every Christmas Eve we'd all go out to dinner, then Dad would drive Mom, me and my sister around to different neighborhoods each year, with XMas music playing in the car. It was always my favorite part of the holiday season. :-)
Still snowing!
It started back up again here today. Not bad, but enough to make driving home from work not so much fun.
'Cause they have the best husband material here!
LOL! I knew there was a reason!
