Jumping on the season 3 spoiler bandwagon

WARNING: if you think the spoiler is the greatest thing since sliced bread, do NOT read this. Because i DON'T and this is not a happy post.
Bela: 20-30, Beautiful and sexy, she's a woman without a conscience. A mercenary in the supernatual world. She is cocky, confident, mercurial and very funny. Actress must possess physical prowess, pless submit all ethnicities, SERIES REGULAR
Ruby: 20-late20's, Beautiful and sexy, mysterious and quiet. She's an enigmatic demon hunter. She is a most brutual, ruthless hunter; in fact she is a better hunter than Sam and Dean. SERIES REGULAR
FUCK THIS SHIT.
Seriously. I can't believe we have to go through this shit AGAIN. This was posted by this DSinLA person over on the TWOP boards who, according to everyone there is never wrong. But I was still willing to chalk it up as a rumor, until Jim Beaver (Bobby) confirmed it, and Ausiello had it in his column and he's damn reliable.
PISSED OFF doesn't even begin to come close to what I'm feeling. It was bad enough going through this with Jo last season, but at least she and Ellen were described as "recurring characters" but did you see the description for Bela and Ruby (what kind of stupid names are those anyway??) - SERIES REGULAR. As in "hop in the back of the Impala, girls, 'cause we'll be traveling together all season". Because, really, if they're not traveling together, how would these girls show up constantly to be "regular" characters? Everytime Sam and Dean show up on a hunt these two just happen show up as well? Yeah, that's about as plausable as Sam and Dean constantly traveling to the Roadhouse.
Oh, and love the fact that Ruby is a better hunter than Sam and Dean. Of COURSE she is!
WHY, ERIC?? Didn't your failed attempt with Jo tell you anything?? The majority of your fan base does NOT WANT this type of character hanging around Sam and Dean.
And I don't believe for one instant that Kripke is doing this to add male viewers to the show, 'cause guess what? The show already HAS what attracts men to it - guns, monsters and things get set on fire on a regular basis.
The fact that they're women isn't my biggest complaint (These characters could be MEN and I'd still be upset), though I will admit it is part of it. My biggest complaint is that I started watching SPN for SamandDean, and Eric seems determined to mess with the success of that formula and for the life of me I can't understand WHY. Are you tired of SPN, Eric? Are you sabotaging it on purpose? Because if these characters become series regulars you will have done just that. I will seriously be through with this show. It will sadden me beyond belief, but it will no longer be the show that I loved, so why bother torturing myself? If I wanted to watch a show with two female regulars who are demon hunters I'd go watch Buffy. But guess what? I've never watched Buffy and never will.
Yes, I understand that with Jensen and Jared being the only lead characters on the show it puts a heavy burden on them. But on the other hand, they knew going into this that it'd be like that.
So let's get back to the lovely descriptions of Bela and Ruby - gosh, now we've got TWO Mary Sue's in our midst! Let's not forget that they're both "beautiful and sexy" but notice that we're careful not to say "love interest" this time around. PLEASE. Do you honestly think that with descriptions like that AND these girls being regular characters that Dean especially won't be banging one, if not both of them? Or that Sam won't instantly bond with one of them and start a relationship? If they're regular characters they'll be around A LOT so the potential for a relationship to start up is way higher than it was with Jo. Gosh, something else to look forward to!
I've seen the "have faith in Eric" posts regarding this, but I'm tired of having faith in Eric! Why do we keep having to go through this trial and error crap, ruining episode upon episode until things get fixed back to the way they were? Just KEEP THEM they way they were to begin with!
Our ratings are bad enough without more meddling in the formula of the show. We ended second season on the lowest note possible, and with this news starting to alienate the majority of the fandom, who's going to tune in for the start of season three?
All of this depresses me tremendously. I honestly don't want to see the start of season 3. I want to go back and live in season 1, where it was Sam and Dean and John doing their thing. And I was really looking forward to third season, what with the clock ticking for Dean and all.
But now? It's three months of being upset and depressed. Gosh, something to look forward to, eh?
If anyone's interested, here are the addresses to write and express your displeasure. I did last summer when Jo and Ellen and the Roadhouse was announced and now I'll be writing again.

Date: 2007-06-13 12:23 pm (UTC)I would have thought that this season would draw the boys and their "family" in closer than ever because of Dean's deal. Their time is short and they've got to do what they can within that limit. Nothing else should matter or intrude. I just don't get it.
I hate to think the show will be ruined by this, but I just don't have the ability to trust right now, because I don't understand the need to make these changes. We don't want or need some other badass hunters to make Dean and Sam feel stupid or inferior. They've got enough on their plates, for Pete's sake. Emotionally, you just can't bounce back from all that happened at the end of season two. I don't care who you are.

Date: 2007-06-13 12:24 pm (UTC)I'm not fond of the regular thing, but I like the idea of female demon hunters.
As long as the main focus of the show will be Dean and Sam, I can live with it.
And I think it's not only a Kripke's idea. I still trust him and I'll watch the show.
I still prefer to have "Dean and Sam with some hunters" than not Dean and Sam at all.
I'll wait and see.
*sighs*

Date: 2007-06-13 12:31 pm (UTC)Sorry, I'd rather have no Sam and Dean at all than that. :-(

Date: 2007-06-13 12:38 pm (UTC)This sounds like fanfic gone bad, doesn't it? Like all those Buffy crossovers I've read where Buffy, Faith, or some other girl gets to do all the fighting and Dean & Sam get to stand around and watch admiringly and *uselessly*. Because that's sooo characteristic.
I'm Kripke wants to re-introduce the potential for romance; he's probably thinking it'll draw viewers/ratings. If so, he's not been paying attention to what fans are saying. We want Dean, Sam, the Impala, and a few recurring characters like Bobby. That's it!

Exactly. The boys should be in no place to deal with romance right now, especially Dean. And, knowing Sam, he's going to put his full attention on saving Dean, so how will he have time for a girl? Not to mention what you talked about Barb-how in the world can they logically be series regulars unless they're traveling with Sam and Dean? It's totally ridiculous for them to just show up hunt after hunt, so they'd have to travel with Sam and Dean...
Okay, I have to comment on the names...:P I just don't like them! They're fine names in themselves (I actually really like the name Ruby), but for this show and those characters, they just don't seem to fit at all. And the fact that Ruby is a better hunter than Sam and Dean? No way! Unless she was raised hunting, there's absolutely no way she could be better than them, and if she was...I don't even know whether I like that or not...
I tend to hold on to shows I like for long after they've gone downhill, hoping that they'll improve (I watched Gilmore Girls up until this season, when it went bad three seasons ago...), and Supernatural won't be any different. I'm not going to stop watching because of this rumor, and though it will make me very sad, I'll likely keep watching all next season even if the new girls don't work out just in the hopes that it'll get better. But if they stick around all this season and ruin things, you can forget me looking forward to season 4. :(

Date: 2007-06-13 12:59 pm (UTC)I want a thoughtful, well-planned season that focuses on the real issues of what they're going to do to save Dean, how the relationship between Sam & Dean develops-and maybe some flashbacks or retroactive appreciation for John. I'd love to see Sam's powers get explored, too. Not to mention all those new demons on the loose, plus the amulet, why Dean's never been possessed while both his dad & brother have (as far as I know)-is he resistant/special/just lucky?
You know-*good* stuff.
Don't need 2 tagalong characters, women or men, and certainly nobody to make our guys look inferior or redundant. One thing that always annoyed me about Buffy, when I watched it, was how they emasculated damn near every male character on the show. Apparently, to script writers, to have strong women, you gotta have weak men.
I don't want that to happen to our guys. So, I have to say I have strong reservations about this.
You think they'd be using the publicity that Jensen's stellar performance in AFGM, his Emmy nom, & Jared's upcoming movie is bringing to them to better advantage.
gotta go. *shifty eyes*

Date: 2007-06-13 01:30 pm (UTC)If they wanted to raise the ratings, why not return to the proven formula of season 1? Why this? I wouldn't mind these girls as recurring characters, but regulars? I bet that they'll make the boys constantly look like fumbling idiots. Condescending behavior anyone? You know this "leave it to the girls, little boys."
I hope that Eric and TPTB will hear the fans' displeasure loud and clearly! X(

who, is praying that Eric is just waiting for the amunition to give to the silly powers that be at CW as to why something like this, if done poorly, will wreck the show. But then CW could care less. Could be they have plans for 2009 with a whole knew line up, since 2009 they won't even have Smallville to contend with.....hmmmmmm

Date: 2007-06-13 04:26 pm (UTC)That's an interesting idea and I think I could buy that if they weren't going to be regular characters. Recurring, yes. I could see the adversary thing that way, showing up every so often, like Gordon. But regular implies in basically every episode. If the girls are hunting Sam and Dean, Sam and Dean aren't doing a very good job of keeping a low profile if the girls find them episode after episode. That's why I keep thinking that they'll be traveling with the boys somehow (barf, gag) which would explain their constant presence. [sigh]
(no subject)
Date: 2007-06-13 04:44 pm (UTC)on the other hand I don't think that Eric is to be blamed as the only one behind that idea. I guess there was a lot of pressure from the CW as well with that Ostroff chick not getting the show and all. to me it looks like she would try something stupid like that.
I can't really stop thinking about that. maybe someone put these thoughts out to see the reaction of the fans towards to decide if to go along with the thought or totally dismiss it with the reaction of fandom towards Jo in mind. just a thought. maybe they really just trying to get the fan's reaction for that kind of set-up before doing something stupid. but they should already know what we would say to something like that and shouldn't have brought that up...AT ALL.
I really am tired of thinking about and so I will try and stop because it drives me nuts. I was so happy about a third season and now I just don't know if to look forward or not. so I try to not think about it at all and wait till the first episode airs sometime end of September. and hoping taht it really only was a stupid rumour to stir things up a bit during hiatus.

Date: 2007-06-13 05:31 pm (UTC)I have a feeling it's Dawn doing it, and Eric is leaking it out to the fan base to get us upset, knowing we will, so we will scream and yell and get rid of them.
Is it too much to ask that the one that looks to be for Dean will actually be a lesbian, and the one that seems to be for sam is very short, so that it just won't work and be funny? Then they can just DIE?
I'm thinking of writing to Dawn and saying STAY out of it. And then to Kripke and saying, don't write Mary-sues!

Date: 2007-06-13 06:10 pm (UTC)Maybe we should come up with tags for the show, like BMS (before Mary Sue) or BB (before bimbos) XP

Date: 2007-06-14 01:43 am (UTC)Did you see the post where someone asked a friend in the industry about this casting info, and he said that Kripke's been fighting network executives about adding female regulars and finally lost? Look here: http://community.livejournal.com/supernatural_tv/1060477.html?page=1#comments
I really think that it's a HUGE mistake to add these Buffy Barbies. One is a better hunter than Dean? One has a mysterious background? Gosh, then what do we need Sam and Dean around for?
Argh. I hate, hate, hate this. I was so excited about season three, and now all that excitement is gone. This is worse than having the Impala/Semi crash hanging over the fandom, because I don't think there's even much potential for *hope*.
(no subject)
Date: 2007-06-14 02:11 am (UTC)Well, apparently it's not him:
http://community.livejournal.com/supernatural_tv/1060477.html
I hate to think the show will be ruined by this, but I just don't have the ability to trust right now, because I don't understand the need to make these changes
You can thank Dawn Ostroff for this nightmare. Her pet show, VM, gets canceled, so she now has to cram female characters in wherever she can, and she set her sights on SPN. We're seriously screwed.
We don't want or need some other badass hunters to make Dean and Sam feel stupid or inferior. They've got enough on their plates, for Pete's sake
Thank you! This whole idea is just preposterous and will most certainly kill this show.
(no subject)
Date: 2007-06-14 02:12 am (UTC)Of this I have NO doubt. Just like the spoilers that were released about Jo last summer. TPTB want to see fan reaction. Well, they've gotten it alright!
(no subject)
Date: 2007-06-14 02:20 am (UTC)And this is all Dawn Ostroff's meddling. All she cares about is having female leads in every damn show on the network, no matter that in some cases it's not plausable!
If so, he's not been paying attention to what fans are saying.
Did you see this? We can let Eric off the hook, as it's all from Dawn Ostroff:
http://community.livejournal.com/supernatural_tv/1060477.html
So now we are seriously screwed since this order has come down from on top. I don't see a way around adding these characters now. :-(
(no subject)
Date: 2007-06-14 02:27 am (UTC)And our faith hasn't been misplaced, it turns out. Did you see this:
http://community.livejournal.com/supernatural_tv/1060477.html
It's all come down from Dawn Ostroff and we're seriously screwed now, if she's demanding it. I don't see how Eric can get out from under this a third time. :-( God, I'm so freaking MAD!
It's totally ridiculous for them to just show up hunt after hunt, so they'd have to travel with Sam and Dean...
Yes, thank you! I mean, I've yet to see one other explanation as to how these girls would be around so damn much if not traveling with the boys. And that thought just makes me ill.
And the fact that Ruby is a better hunter than Sam and Dean? No way! Unless she was raised hunting
Did you look at her age?? She'd be the same age as Sam and Dean, so how could she have more experience unless she started training at age 3 or something. It's totally ridiculous.
I'm not going to stop watching because of this rumor, and though it will make me very sad, I'll likely keep watching all next season even if the new girls don't work out just in the hopes that it'll get better
I'll give them ONE episode and if it's as bad as I fear it will be I do believe I'll walk away from SPN. It will kill me to do so, but I just can't watch a show that I love dearly be destroyed. And hey, if I find out they kill off the girls in episode six I can always download the eps and get caught up. :-)
Oh, criminY...
Date: 2007-06-14 02:28 am (UTC)But now? Jesus, Eric! Any fanfic writer could come up with better female characters than this.(BELA? Are you freakin' kidding me??)I can only put this down to Kripke being a man. God forbid that a female hunter be anything but "beautiful and sexy," probably running around in skintight jeans or short shorts and low cut sweaters while Jared and Jensen get to keep warm and wear real clothes. Ecch. And better hunters than Sam and Dean? I can accept that the hunters have varying levels of expertise and experience, but female hunters don't have to be better hunters than males, just as smart and resourceful. Am I against female hunters on SPN? No, not at all. I'm hoping that this will be a plot point for season 3--where are the other hunters? They can't have all died at the Roadhouse. Where are they, and how will they be contacted? (It'll be REALLY interesting if Gordon shows up. And are all of the 'special children' dead?) This would be a good way of bringing Jo back as an echo of the parent/child/family backbone of the first season. I don't think that Ellen wanted Jo to be a hunter, and if Jo has decided to hunt this will pit her against her mother, and this would be a real, strong reason for these women to be in season three, not as rivals/bed partners for our Js. And has Kripke considered that having two constant female 'sidekicks'(ohGod)would kick any future 'romantic arcs' down the drain? Guess he hasn't. Pity. This almost always seems to happen when a TV series is renewed; somebody starts screwing around with what made people watch the show in the first place. Eric, we don't NEED to see the guys getting it on every episode! (And as you found out, Spooky, SPN has what attracts some men to it--hot men!) I can't believe how he says he reads message boards, etc., and he's pulling this "Dean and Sam need regular female companions" crap again. It didn't work with Jo, it won't work now. Was this some kind of deal (ha) he had to make with the network to get the third season?? I sure hope not, because God knows what he'll have to agree to for Season Four...
