ASK ME ANYTHING - Day Six

ASK ME ANYTHING - Day Six - [livejournal.com profile] gorkonelka - wants to know what would I like to see happen on Supernatural? Some idea you have in your mind?

Honestly, I want Dean to have a season long story arc where HE is front and center. Not just three episodes (like Demon Dean) and we're right back to having all the focus on Sam. Why does Sam get arcs that last for at least 11-12 episodes on a consistent basis?

I'd love it if Benny came back. If Dean had to go back to Purgatory to rescue him and the story arc revolved around he and Dean.

Since I know that'll never happen [sigh] how about an idea for the next proposed spin-off? I'd love it if it were a prequel to SPN. With a young John on the road raising young Sam and Dean, taking them on hunts, meeting younger Bobby, etc. I'd love a better insight into John. I'd watch that spinoff in a heartbeat!

I honestly don't like taking sides when it comes to the Dean vs. Sam argument, but whenever someone points out how little of the story lines it dedicated to Dean, I can't help but agree. The demon arc was ridiculous (especially compared to Sam being addicted to demon blood), but apparently Jensen and Jared think so as well. Maybe we're lucky and they revisit it in a way which goes beyond looking and talking about the mark.

Honestly, I wish they never did that body swap episode. What a missed opportunity! If there's one thing I want to see on the show (and that I have read in fanfic), it's a proper body swap between Sam and Dean. Eureka did a great one in their last season.

I disagree, a bodyswap between Dean and Sam would make no sense whatsoever. The most the writers would get out of it is some physical humor.

I've always been against a bodyswap between the Winchesters because there's no point to it.

They're just not that different, and they don't interact with a group of people who'd show any reaction to a switch.

It wouldn't change anything, it wouldn't teach them anything about the other's life that they don't already know, spending so much time together.

A bodyswap like that is only interesting between two people with vastly different living situations, like say Buffy and faith back on btvs, or Adalind and Nick on Grimm.

On SPN, there'd just be no point to it.

Well, then we have to agree to disagree. The fact that they go their separate ways over and over again shows that they don't have enough insight into each other minds or they just ignore it. A body swap would force them to deal with. Obviously, this would result in a more serious body swap episode, because it would lead to Sam understanding what's happening with the mark, things that Dean does not want to tell him. And that's the problem. We're in season 10 and most drama and conflict is still a result of the fact that they don't talk to each other.

Jody or Charlie would be audience enough and they both would work if you want some humor in it. In addition to that, you also have two people who could help them reverse it.

Maybe it's too late and a proper body swap episode should have happened during S1-5, but I'd prefer having none at all to the mess we got.

The Eureka episode actually featured more than one body swap, so throwing in some other characters, even Castiel or Crowley, would also work.

But that's the thing, a bodyswap would in no way teach them something about the other that they don't already know.

The only points in time where a body swap might have taught the other something, was either while Sam was in Stanford, and Dean got to experience being at college, while Sam gets to know what it's like to live under John's expectations, and being on the road on his own.

Or if Sam somehow got switched with teenage Dean and got to realize what it's like to live Dean's life.

Other than that.. the whole mark of Cain, demon blood thing, is not something they could ever show properly on television as a thing worth dealing with. And once again, it wouldn't teach them anything new.

See, I have to side with [livejournal.com profile] violateraindrop on this. I would dearly love to see a proper body swap between Sam and Dean. We were completely cheated out of it the first time around. Another huge missed opportunity.

Not every episode has to teach the boys something. It can be a purely fun episode. I’d love to see Dean inside Sam hitting his head on things because he forgets how tall Sam is, etc. Nothing wrong with some straight up humor because we know Jensen and Jared do it so well.

I know, same here. But it’s in black and white. I’m not making this stuff up! It’s a proven fact that the majority of the “mythology” episodes since the show started have centered around Sam. It didn’t really bother me until the demon blood arc and it’s just gotten worse from there.

The demon arc was ridiculous (especially compared to Sam being addicted to demon blood), but apparently Jensen and Jared think so as well.

I was really glad to read that, that the boys wanted much more out of that, too.
